Deity Magick | The Earth Goddess

Spell and the Witch⛥ is the online personal Book Of Shadows of an experienced practicing grey witch.

For those of you who are new to my website, welcome, it’s a pleasure to meet you.  My name is Belladonna Darklore and I am the aforementioned witch and intuitive empath.

As a woman who thinks of herself as spiritual rather than religious, nature is my church and so I choose to honour the Earth Goddess.

In this post I would like to share with you what she means to me and her involvement in my own personal practice.

The Earth Goddess goes by many names such as Mother Earth, Mother Nature or Gaia and to me she is the personification of Earth.  I sometimes refer to her as the Divine or Source and she is the main deity that I choose to work with.

In my mind she is beautiful, wise and nurturing but also formidable, wild and untamed.

She is not removed from the Earth, she is Earth.  Her essence is in all living things – animals, humans, minerals and plants.

She is a triple Goddess representing the different aspects of maiden, mother and crone as the seasons change throughout the turning of the Wheel of the Year.  The triple moon symbol is not only associated with her in those three aspects but also the three phases of the moon too; waxing, full and waning.

In the spring she is born into her maiden form, vibrant and youthful.  The first flowers start to appear and the mornings begin to get lighter as I celebrate Imbolc, Ostara and Beltane.  These Sabbats represent beauty, fresh potential and new life.

In Summer she grows into her mother form, giving birth to all the abundance on Earth.  The days are long and warm and both flora and fauna are flourishing as I celebrate Litha, Lammas and Mabon.  These Sabbats represent living a full and rich life, nurturing and responsibility.

In Autumn and Winter she becomes her crone form, twilight is approaching.  The days are cold and the nights begin to draw in as I celebrate Samhain and Yule.  These Sabbats represent change, death and rebirth.

I honour her all year round as I celebrate each Sabbat – using natural objects on my altar to represent her four elements – Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

To connect with her I like to feed the birds in my garden or take a walk in nature.

To show my respect for her I try to be mindful of my environment by picking up litter, composting and recycling.

Whether you choose to walk a spiritual path or not, it is important now more than ever that we all do all whatever we can to protect her.

How do you honour her?
